AGARTALA: Tripura is set to implement the three new criminal laws replacing IPC, CrPC and the Indian Evidence Act from July 1 amid protests.
“All new cases will be registered under the new criminal laws from Monday, and the pending and under trial ones will also be dealt with under Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam,” home secretary P K Chakraborty said at a press meet on Saturday.
He said the Centre has already notified the decision for the implementation of the new laws passed in Parliament and all investigation and justice delivery system would be brought under the new laws henceforth.
Meanwhile, lawyers gathered under the aegis of the All India Lawyers’ Union staged a protest in front of the West Tripura court demanding withdrawal of the new criminal laws. They said, “These laws would adversely impact both advocates and litigants.
The govt must immediately stop the implementation and hold discussions and debates in Parliament.”
