Tripura rebuilding houses in conflict-hit Gandatwisa
Agartala: Tripura govt has distributed the first installment of funds for rebuilding houses in the ethnic conflict-hit villages of Gandatwisa in Dhalai district. Support will be extended as needed to restore normalcy as soon as possible, assured district magistrate Saju Vaheed on Tuesday. The district administration has been closely monitoring the life and livelihood issues of the affected families. As many as 435 people from 107 families, including 38 children (seven of whom are under one year), have been staying in relief camps for over a fortnight.A large number of families became homeless following a sudden attack on the surrounding villages of Gandatwisa at midnight on July 12. They lost everything in the arson and looting spree that followed the death of college student Parameshwar Reang (21), who was assaulted in a distant village in the presence of security personnel.Allegedly, a group of outsiders carried out targeted and selective attacks on the shops and houses of the surrounding localities at midnight. They initially looted the shops and set them on fire. Later, when people fled in fear, they looted the houses and set them ablaze. The miscreants blockaded the roads to prevent police and fire services from reaching the scene. Allegedly, police watched the flames from a distance without taking action against those blocking the roads and setting the houses and shops on fire. No arrest has been made in connection with the incidents so far.We also published the following articles recently
