Agartala: Tripura power minister Ratan Lal Nath addressed the North Eastern Power Ministers’ conference in Guwahati on Tuesday, chaired by Union power minister Manohar Lal Khattar, reports Biswendu Bhattacharjee.
Nath sought the Centre’s attention on the significant rise in gas prices, which has largely affected power generation costs in the state. He said costs had escalated to $6.50 per Metric Million British Thermal Unit (MMBTU) from only $2.90 in 2022.
He urged the ministry of power and petroleum to consider measures to reduce gas prices.
Nath requested support for a renovation in the power sector and proposed setting up a 400KV substation at Suryamaninagar in Agartala with funding from the Centre. He also highlighted the need for the construction of an 800 MW pump storage facility in the Langtarai Valley sub-division in Dhalai. The minister demanded central support of Rs 1000 crore for Tripura’s intra-state transmission requirements by 2030.
