Agartala: Tripura govt has set an ambitious goal to plant five lakh saplings in just five minutes on July 5 as part of the month-long Vanamahutsava celebrations.
Forest minister Animesh Debbarma announced the initiative on Wednesday, emphasising the need to protect the environment and compensate for the loss of mature trees due to recent developmental works, including the widening of national highways.
Debbarma stressed the importance of involving various stakeholders, such as administrative staff, educational institutions, social organisations and paramilitary forces, to ensure the success and sustainability of the drive. The forest department aims to distribute saplings free of cost to these entities for planting on public premises, while selling saplings at Rs 2.5 per seedling from forest nurseries for private land plantations in July.
