Agartala: Tripura transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury has written to Union civil aviation minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, expressing concern over high airfares on the Agartala-Kolkata route following the withdrawal of IndiGo flights.
The discontinued flights, which also included Kolkata-Agartala-Lengpui (Mizoram) and Kolkata-Agartala-Shillong routes, have caused significant public inconvenience.
In his letter, Chowdhury emphasised the importance of these flights and urged the Centre to resume the services immediately, either through IndiGo or other suitable operators. He highlighted the daily passenger traffic of around 2,000 people, including a significant number of Bangladesh nationals, flying to Kolkata via Agartala, necessitating more flights on the Agartala-Kolkata-Agartala sector to ensure affordable fares.
In a separate letter to railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Chowdhury reiterated the demand for regular passenger and goods trains from Agartala to Kolkata via Dhaka and Agartala to Chittagong.
