THRC notice in 3 cases of rights violation

Agartala: The Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) has initiated suo motu proceedings regarding three separate incidents of alleged human rights violations and has instructed police authorities to conduct thorough investigations.In the first instance, THRC addressed a ragging incident at Tripura Medical College (TMC) involving approximately 12 students, which reportedly created an unsettling atmosphere in the institution. The Commission highlighted that ragging is both a criminal offence and a violation of human rights, requiring swift action under the Tripura Educational Institutions (Prevention of Ragging) Act, 1990. The commission, noting the institutional management’s perceived failure to prevent such incidents, has directed TMC principal to provide a comprehensive incident report within three weeks. The second case involves a disturbing incident in Sepahijala district where villagers allegedly subjected a woman to public molestation and nudity. The commission expressed serious concern, stating that such actions violate the victim's dignity and basic human rights.The final case concerns alleged interference by local leaders in the personal affairs of two consenting adults.
