Tripura govt identifies 10 villages to rear cattle

Agartala: Tripura govt has undertaken an initiative to increase the population of cattle to cater to the ever-growing demand for milk and milk products in the state. The initiative is part of the Rashtriya Gokul MissionAnimal resources development minister Sudhangshu Das Saturday said 10 villages have been identified so far to implement the project. Besides increasing the supply of milk, eggs and meat, the project aims to create employment opportunities. “We need to explore ways to increase the supply of milk and milk products. The govt is working on vaccination, treatment and disease prevention measures for birds and animals,” Das said.To ensure timely treatment of birds and animals, the animal resources development department has made 13 mobile veterinary units operational along with 16 veterinary hospitals, 65 dispensaries and 460 veterinary sub-centres in Tripura.

India's milk production rose by nearly 4% to 239 million tonnes in 2023-24, with UP being the highest producer. Meat production increased by 5% to over 10 million tonnes, led by West Bengal. Egg production reached 143 billion, while wool output stayed constant at 34 million kg. The survey aims to provide reliable data for policy making and research.

Winter boosts milk demand in Indore

Milk demand in Indore has surged due to increased institutional and household consumption during winter. Indore Cooperative Dugdh Sangh now records sales of 2.5 lakh litres daily, with private suppliers adding another lakh litres. Additional demand from weddings and increased household needs further boost consumption, potentially driving up demand by 1-2 lakh litres in the coming weeks.
