Tripura mulls cut in power export to B’desh during Durga Puja

Agartala: Tripura govt has indicated a potential reduction in power exports to Bangladesh during Durga Puja to ensure an uninterrupted celebration, according to power minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday.
The govt has decided to purchase an additional 105 MW of power, estimating an expenditure of Rs 2 crore. To meet the additional requirements, Tripura plans to acquire up to 80 MW from Mizoram and ONGC Tripura Power Company, with the remaining 25 MW sourced from the open market or power exchanges.
To accommodate this demand, the state will reduce its supply to Bangladesh from the usual 71 MW to 50 MW during the festival. Nath also mentioned that Tripura currently has an outstanding balance of Rs 188 crore from Bangladesh, which remains unpaid.
This year’s highest peak power consumption was recorded at 378.5 MW on Sept 20, with an average consumption of 330 MW.
