Tripura floods: NDRF evacuates 125 people; IAF air-drops over 4000 food packets in affected areas

NEW DELHI: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescue teams successfully evacuated 125 individuals from various flood-affected regions of Tripura during a Friday evening operation. Officials stated that eleven NDRF teams have been deployed across the state to conduct rescue and relief efforts.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) reported on August 24 that their helicopters had air-dropped more than 4,000 food packets to stranded residents in disaster-struck areas.

In an X post on August 24, IAF said, "#IAF Mi-17 and ALH helicopters continue relentless efforts in Tripura flood relief operations, with NDRF personnel inducted into disaster-struck areas. Operating from Agartala, the helicopters air-dropped over 4,000 food packets to stranded locals in Rangamati, Jatanbari, Udaipur, Paschim Malbasa, Shankar Pali, and nearby areas. A total of 28 tons of relief material has been airlifted till now for flood-affected Tripura."

On the evening of August 23, NDRF shared on X, "11 teams deployed across Tripura. In today's rescue ops NDRF rescuers evacuated 125 people and retrieved one deceased in Karbook and Amarpur of Gomti, Sepahijala and Khowai areas."

Chief Minister Manik Saha is set to lead an all-party meeting on Saturday to assess the current flood situation in the state. Earlier, CM Saha addressed the ongoing flood crisis, assuring citizens that the situation was under control. He also expressed appreciation for the central government's assistance and outlined the measures being implemented to handle the disaster.

The latest data provided by the state administration indicates that 24 people have lost their lives, two individuals were injured, and two others were reported missing due to the floods in Tripura.

Initial reports suggest significant damage to physical infrastructure, such as roads, power, and buildings, as well as agricultural crops, houses, fishery ponds, and livestock. Since August 19, the district administration has established a total of 558 relief camps, according to the report.
