Tripura floods & landslides: 10 more die, toll now 20
According to police reports, a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall buried a house in the Ashwini Tripura locality of Gardang panchayat, Santirbazar early in the morning. The deceased have been identified as Umacharan Tripura (25), Mandira Tripura (23), Prasenjit Tripura (21), Ajay Tripura (16), Rakesh Tripura (18), Jyotika Tripura (21) and Kumtuisa Tripura (3), a 3-year-old child.
Several other family members were injured in the incident and are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. Sukhen, an injured survivor, said, “We lost seven people — three of my sons, one daughter-in-law, one granddaughter, my younger brother, and his wife.” In Debipur of Sepahijala, two persons were swept away in floodwaters on Thursday afternoon when they were fishing. A TSR jawan of the same village died after he slipped into floodwater near his house. The three bodies are yet to be located, police said.
Earlier, nine people were killed in landslides in South Tripura, Gomati, and Khowai districts and a woman was swept away by floodwaters in Khowai district.
7 more killed in landslide, death toll rose to 17 in Tripura flood
In Tripura, a landslide caused by heavy rain has raised the death toll to 17. Seven individuals, including a 3-year-old child, lost their lives as their house was buried in South Tripura district. Six bodies have been recovered and efforts are ongoing to find the last victim. Survivors are undergoing medical treatment for their injuries.
Rain triggers landslides in Tripura: 7 dead, 2 go missing
Seven deaths and two missing persons have been reported in Tripura following landslides triggered by heavy rains since Sunday night, displacing over 5,600 people. South Tripura, Gomati, and Khowai are the worst-hit areas. The IMD predicts continued downpours for two more days, issuing severe weather alerts for multiple districts, including a red alert for South Tripura.
Excess rain worsens flood situation in Tripura
Tripura has faced severe rain-triggered landslides and drowning fatalities, leading to at least 10 deaths since Tuesday. With heavy rains worsening, the state shut down all educational institutions and relocated over 6,000 families. Union Home Minister Amit Shah promised support for additional NDRF personnel to assist in rescue operations, as requested by Chief Minister Manik Saha.
