Tripura flood toll rises to 24 as four more die

Agartala: The death toll in Tripura due to rain and landslides has climbed to 24 as of Friday, following four additional casualties in Gomati district due to drowning, according to a govt release.Of the 24 casuaties so far, nine drowned in floodwaters while 15 others lost their lives when their mud houses collapsed due to excessive rainfall in various parts of Gomati and South Tripura districts.The Centre has allocated Rs 40 crore in advance from the State Disaster Relief Fund to provide immediate assistance to flood-hit people in Tripura.The state has been grappling with incessant rain for four consecutive days. Reports said while five persons drowned in floodwaters, at least 15 others lost their lives when their mud houses collapsed due to excessive rainfall in various parts of Gomati and South Tripura districts.

Excess rain worsens flood situation in Tripura

At least 10 people died in rain-induced landslides and drowning in Tripura since Tuesday. A request for additional NDRF personnel was made by Chief Minister Manik Saha to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Many families were relocated, and education institutions closed as heavy rainfall flooded several districts, severely affecting Agartala.

A landslide in Tripura's South Tripura district tragically buried two tribal family homes, resulting in 17 deaths, including a 3-year-old child. Efforts are ongoing to locate the final missing body. Heavy rains triggered the landslide early in the morning, with survivors recounting the unexpected disaster. Injured family members are receiving medical treatment.

Centre provides Rs 40 crore as flood relief for Tripura

The Central government provided Rs 40 crore in advance to Tripura from the State Disaster Relief Fund for immediate flood relief. Home Minister Amit Shah assured full support, while Chief Minister Manik Saha acknowledged the extensive aid, including NDRF teams, Army columns, and Air Force helicopters. Floodwaters began to recede, and relief operations continue actively.
