Tripura Congress seeks report on action taken in Kumarghat Rath tragedy
Agartala: Congress has demanded the release of the investigation report and subsequent govt action against those responsible for the chariot tragedy at Kumarghat in Unakoti district a year ago.
The incident, which occurred during the Rath Yatra, resulted in the death of at least 10 devotees due to electrocution and caused severe injuries to 16 others.
“On this day last year during Rath Yatra, a heavily decorated iron rod atop a chariot came in contact with a high-tension wire on the national highway.

Despite objections from the administration, Iskcon authorities and a group of influential people allegedly brought out the chariot, which led to the mishap,” Congress president Ashis Kumar Saha said.
He added that the CM had ordered an inquiry immediately after the incident. But a year later, no information has been made public, and no arrests or judicial proceedings have been initiated against the accused, despite repeated demands for justice from the victims’ families and the public.
A woman, who lost her daughter-in-law and four-year-old granddaughter in the tragedy, said another of her granddaughter lost her ability to walk normally and had to have one hand amputated. Despite assurances from the govt and Isckon authorities to provide assistance and compensation, the family has received no support.
