Agartala: Dissident Congress legislators of Tripura have called for a united anti-Left platform to fight CPM in the state.

"The way CPM and Congress came together against the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal, a similar unity among anti-Left parties is required to end 23 years of misrule of CPM in Tripura," said former leader of the opposition, Sudip Roy Barman, on Tuesday.

He added that CPM is the main enemy of all other political parties in Tripura as far as ideology is concerned.

Roy Barman alleged that CPM believes in disintegration and wants to keep poverty and illiteracy alive for its narrow political interests. He blamed the CPM for dividing the opposition into several factions, including tribal-based parties, in Tripura. "Unfortunately, the Congress leadership has also fallen prey to their nefarious design in West Bengal," he added.

Reacting to Roy Barman's proposition, BJP state president Biplab Deb said his party has always been against the Left. But BJP is not going to forge any alliance with any party in Tripura at this stage.

Tripura PCC president Birajit Sinha refused to comment on the issue.
