Tripura CM calls for unity against discord

Agartala: Tripura chief minister Manik Saha on Wednesday urged the public to resist attempts by vested interest groups to bring back the old days of terror and instability in the state.
There was no peace and social harmony in this state for 35 years. The consistent efforts of the present govt to restore peace and normalcy are not being accepted by a section of people who thrive on conflict and social disharmony, Saha told the media.
“Tripura is now in high spirits and euphoria over the Durga Puja festival, but some people with vested interests in instability and discord are trying hard to destabilise the state by sowing seeds of hatred and malice. We all need to resist them collectively,” the chief minister urged.
He emphasised that while the state govt is doing all it can, govt initiatives alone are not enough. People must come forward to preserve and protect social peace and harmony, he added.
Saha said the govt will not tolerate mischief-making by troublemakers and will protect the atmosphere of peace and harmony at all costs.
He also stated that the police have been given a free hand to proceed against criminals and troublemakers, and this will continue. Additionally, he criticised the opposition for targeting the state govt without sufficient grounds.
“The opposition here is without any real issues, which is why they are trying to confuse people by creating fabricated issues. But this will not succeed,” Saha emphasised.
