, on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take back his “Hira” (diamond) that he said would replace “Manik” (ruby) in 2018 after the assembly election.

He said, “The Prime Minister has cheated the people of Tripura by hailing Biplab as a diamond, that brings a meaningful and positive change in the life of commoners but ultimately the PM’s ‘Hira’ appears to be a piece of glass. The people of Tripura do not want it anymore, you (PM) keep it,” said Barman.

Roy Barman alleged that the Biplab Kumar Deb government is mired in corruption and has not even spared the Mata Tripurasundari (one of the 51 Shaktipiths) temple. The 500-year-old temple is considered a Kurmapith which was under the direct control of kings but in the instrument of accession, the temple and its entire property were transferred in the name of the deities.

“After Deb became chief minister, he formed Tripurasundari Temple Trust and himself held the post of chairman. In the name of renovation, the surroundings of the temple were demolished. The only intention of such an impious act was to mint money out of the construction,” Roy Barman alleged. He threatened that he will go to court against the violation of the accession clause and the hurt caused to peoples’ sentiments.
