AGARTALA: Assembly speaker RC Debnath on Friday disqualified
MLA Ratan Lal Nath
on the ground of
defection
under 2(1)(a) of Schedule X of Article 191 of the Constitution. "Nath has joined
BJP incurring disqualification on the ground of defection. He does not deserve protection under Schedule X of the Constitution. Thereby, his seat in the assembly has fallen vacant," the speaker said in his order.
Nath was elected from Mohanpur constituency in 2013 state election as a Congress nominee. On December 22, Nath joined BJP along with a large number of his followers. On December 26, TPCC president Birajit Sinha had sought his disqualification. The hearing was fixed on January 6 but Nath did not appear on health grounds.
