Tripura shocked by two patricide cases within 24 hrs

Agartala: In two separate incidents within 24 hours, drug-addicted sons turned on their parents, killing them in different locations in Tripura. Police have arrested both accused sons, and the courts have remanded them to police custody. The first incident occurred in Vidyasagar, Agartala, where Arghyajit Das (28), a drug addict, hacked his father Kajal Das (62), a retired fisheries department employee, to death on Saturday night. Police said Kajal Das, a widower, lived alone, but his drug-addicted son Arghyajit frequently pressured him for money. Recently, Kajal Das had sold a plot of land and had money in his possession, which led to increased pressure from his son. At around 11 pm, Arghyajit came home and demanded money from his father, who refused. Enraged by the refusal and under the influence of drugs, Arghyajit hacked his father to death on the spot. Later, Arghyajit went to the East Agartala police station and surrendered, confessing to the murder of his father. In the second incident, in Taichhama village under Bharat Chandra Nagar panchayat in South Tripura, Monirai Tripura (90) was similarly hacked to death by his drunken son Punirai Tripura (51) on Friday night. Police said Punirai Tripura was a habitual drunkard who regularly ill-treated his father. On the night of the incident, Punirai returned home heavily intoxicated and quarrelled with his father. When Monirai Tripura protested, Punirai picked up a sharp cutter and struck his father’s head several times, killing him on the spot. Punirai was later arrested by police and brought on two days of police remand after being produced in court.

A 60-year-old man and his son died, and his wife was critically injured after being hit by an unidentified vehicle in Bijnor's Mandawar area. The family was traveling by bike for medicines when the accident occurred. Police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the vehicle owner, and legal proceedings are ongoing.
