On March 29, Nath, BJP MLA from Bagbasa constituency of North Tripura, was caught watching purported porn clips on a mobile phone during the deliberation in the house. Nath, 50, was elected for the first time to the assembly as a BJP nominee and had repeatedly been caught on camera relishing porn videos when an important discussion was going on about the supplementary grant.
After the assembly session began in the morning, leader of the opposition Animesh Debbarma enquired about the status of his adjournment motion, which was moved seeking action against Nath.
The opposition Motha, CPM and Congress together asked speaker Biswabandhu Sen to take action to erase the misconception from people's minds about the assembly and a legislator and demanded he condemn such an act. But the speaker and treasury bench disagreed, which triggered an uproar in the house.
When Sen refused to allow them to speak and instead directed finance minister Pranajit Singha Roy to present the budget for 2023-24, the opposition leaders descended into the well of the house along with all 27 opposition legislators. They raised slogans seeking action against Nath. The sloganeering continued for 40 minutes. During the protest, three MLAs from Tipra Motha - Nandita Reang, Brishaketu Debbarma and Ranjit Debbarma climbed onto a table in the house and continued their protest.
