TIRUPATI: Local police booked cases against both the ruling TDP leaders and the YSRCP leaders linked to the Punganur violence on Friday.

It may be recalled that the YSRCP and the TDP activists resorted to acts of violence during Rajampet MP PV Midhun Reddy's visit to the Punganur constituency on Thursday.

Several activists belonging to both the YSRCP and the TDP were injured in the stone-pelting attacks, and several vehicles were vandalized and torched.

Following a complaint lodged by local TDP leader Sohail Basha, police booked cases against Rajampet MP PV Midhun Reddy, ex-Chittoor MP N Reddeppa, and 32 other YSRCP leaders.

Similarly, based on a complaint lodged by the ex-Chittoor MP, police booked cases against several TDP local leaders as well.

In view of the prolonged post-poll violence at Punganur even a month after the election results were declared, a police picket has been put in place and additional forces have been deployed to prevent any further attacks.
