Agartala:
ONGC has announced that it will increase its drilling activities in Tripura starting next month. By the end of the year, the company aims to produce enough gas to meet the state’s requirements, executive director-assets manager, Tripura, Krishna Kumar said.
Kumar acknowledged that gas supply was affected due to right-of-use issues that arose from rapid urbanization around Agartala city, where ONGC has discovered a significant gas reserve.
“In the urban areas, drilling is a little bit problematic because of the high density of population and public infrastructure. We have devised a strategy of technology interface to dig out gas and bring it to the Gas Collection Centre without disturbing anything and hopefully, the gas availability issue will be resolved very soon,” Kumar said.
ONGC Tripura Asset has set a target of drilling at least 20 new wells this year, up from 15 last year.
