Persuading Centre to start ops at Kailashahar airport: Min

Agartala: Transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury informed the assembly that the state govt has been urging the ministry of civil aviation to make the Kailashahar airport in Unakoti district functional in the near future, reports Biswendu Bhattacharjee.In response to a question raised by Congress MLA Birjit Sinha from Kailashahar, Chowdhury stated that the ministry had carried out an Obstacle Limitation Survey due to the presence of River Manu at the southern end of the airport and a state road with dense population on the northern side. The preliminary survey recommended operating small 20-seater aircraft for short flights, and the airport infrastructure was renovated accordingly. However, the airport did not receive clearance at the final stage because of the insufficient runway length.

State to start mpox screening at airports

The Bihar health department is setting up help desks at Patna and Gaya airports to screen passengers for mpox, formerly known as monkeypox. Isolation wards will be established in three hospitals across the state. This move follows the Union health ministry's directive after WHO declared mpox a public health emergency of international concern.

Small aircraft crashes in residential area near Portland International Airport

A twin-engine Cessna 421C crashed in a residential neighborhood near Portland International Airport in Oregon on Saturday morning. The crash displaced five families and left one person missing. Emergency services responded promptly, and an investigation will be conducted by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board to determine the cause of the crash.

Civil aviation minister Rammohan Naidu launches digi yatra at 9 airports

Union minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu announced that India aims to increase its number of airports from 157 to 400 over the next 25 years. He introduced the Digi Yatra biometric boarding system at nine airports. The government plans to promote seaplane travel and build more heliports, aiming for enhanced connectivity and travel convenience.
