MCC flout: 19 Tripura govt staff suspended

Agartala: With the suspension of two more govt employees engaged in the election, as of now at least 19 people have been suspended for violation of election rules in Tripura after notification of the Lok Sabha polls.Sources said the returning officer of East Tripura constituency, district magistrate of Dhalai, Saju Vaheed A, on Tuesday recommended the suspension of a lower division clerk of the state PWD, Gautam Saha, for dereliction of duty during home voting of elderly persons and PWDs. During the investigation, it was found that the accused, designated as the second polling officer, had allowed a third person to capture photographs during the exercise in Sabroom on April 17, which went viral.Based on the investigation, the returning officer asked the chief engineer, NH division (PWD), to suspend Saha from service with immediate effect.Two more employees — an education department employee posted in a library in South Tripura and a videographer from the information department — were suspended on Monday.This is the first time so many govt employees have been suspended for violation of the election code. Most of them were suspended for participating in the election campaign for political parties thereby flouting the model code of conduct.
