Agartala: Incessant rain in the past two days has triggered flash floods across Tripura and inundated low-lying areas of Bishalgarh and Sonamura subdivisions in Sepahijala district of West Tripura.

According to official reports, over 1,200 families have been affected by the floods. A stretch of the Agartala-Sabroom national highway has been submerged, throwing traffic out of gear in three places. Revenue officials said the flash floods had also damaged huge farm fields. A total of 100 flood-affected families were given shelter in the relief camps opened in the Bishalgarh, Charilam and Durlavnarayan areas by the Sepahijala district administration.

With heavy rainfall lashing various parts of state in the past 24 hours, water-levels in major rivers including the Gomati, Manu and Howrah have continued to rise. The authorities have issued an alert.
