Motha MLA writes to Shah, seeks pushing back of illegal migrants
Agartala: Former rebel-turned-MLA Ranjit Debbarma on Sunday wrote to Union home minister Amit Shah, seeking his intervention to prevent the influx of migrants from Bangladesh amid the volatile political situation there.
Ranjit has urged Shah to form a high-power committee to detect, identify and push back illegal immigrants who are entering Indian territory.

In the letter, he has appreciated the GRP for a number of detentions and arrests at different railway stations in the state, but criticised the role of Tripura Police’s mobile task force in checking illegal migration.

10,675 illegal immigrants in Manipur in last 5 years: CM
Manipur CM N Biren Singh reported to the assembly that 10,675 illegal immigrants, mainly from Myanmar, China, Bangladesh, Norway, and Nepal, have been detected in the state over the past five years. Out of them, 85 have been deported, and 143 are held in detention centers. The state has spent over Rs 85 lakh on these immigrants.
