AGARTALA
: A day after the formal launching of the inter-state bi-weekly bus service between
Mizoram and Tripura, the first passenger bus from the highest peak of
Tripura
— Bethliangchhip of Jampui hill in the
North
— left for
Aizawl with 24 passengers on Tuesday.
According to officials, Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga had flagged off the bus in Aizawl on Monday, which took about six hours to reach the destination covering the distance of 200 km, making halts in three major places in western Mizoram.
The Mizoram State Transport (MST) bus will leave from Aizawl every Monday and Thursday morning for Bethliangchhip via Mamit in Mizoram, Khedacherra, Damcherra and Kanchanpur of Tripura. The same bus will return on Tuesday and Friday on the same route. The small passenger vehicles have had regular movement between the two states for the last many years.
A large number of small traders from North Tripura and western Mizoram have regular movement in the trade points. While Mizoram traders are selling fancy items, clothes and electronic items from Myanmar and South Korea in North Tripura, traders from here are selling food and cosmetic items in Mizoram villages.
“There has been a long demand for regular inter-state bus service between the two states but it was not feasible because of poor roads. Recently, the roads have been developed and the movement of passengers from both sides has increased. Mizoram is actively thinking of extending the service between Aizawl and Agartala soon,” said an MST official.
