ECI mechanism to hold free and fair polls in Tripura

Agartala: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken several steps to check malpractices on polling day in the state that has a history of poll violence, preventing voters from exercising their franchise and vandalising booths among other things.
Chief electoral officer (CEO) Puneet Agarwal on Tuesday appointed complaint redressal officers and opened a helpline to ensure peaceful polls in both parliamentary seats of Tripura on April 19 and 26. Any query or complaint regarding Lok Sabha election would be handled by the designated officers of the assembly constituency who will take appropriate measures, if necessary, to hold fair and violence-free polls.
A dedicated complaint redressal officer (CRO), as assigned by the assistant returning officer (ARO) concerned, will be in charge of the voter helpline number for the respective assembly segment under the supervision of the assistant returning officer, the CEO said.
“The CROs will maintain records of each complaint, address it, and assign a suitable officer or team to resolve any issue immediately and update the complainant,” Agarwal said.
