CPM leader ‘killed’ in Tripura ahead of rural polls, statewide shutdown called today
Agartala: CPM leader Badal Shil who was critically injured in an attack in South Tripura’s Rajnagar area died while undergoing treatment in a hospital on Saturday, police said.
CPM alleged that Shil (49), the party’s South Tripura zilla parishad candidate, was murdered by BJP-backed goons, and called a 12-hour statewide bandh on Sunday.
Party secretary Jitendra Chaudhury said, “When CPM leaders, workers and candidates reached Rajnagar colony HS school for filing nominations, a gang of armed BJP miscreants lying in wait, attacked them with sharp weapons.” He added that several workers were injured in the attack, including Shil who sustained a serious head injury.
