AGARTALA: Rajya Sabha MP from Communist Party of India (CPI) Sandosh Kumar P on Tuesday wrote to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India seeking his instruction to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tripura to take necessary steps to ensure a free and fair assembly election on February 16.

He alleged that attacks and violence by BJP cadres on CPI workers in the Santirbazar assembly constituency of South Tripura, where party candidate Satyajit Reang is contesting, have been continuing for the last few days.

The MP said the matter was brought to the notice of the CEO with specific instances. However, no action was taken and violence continued.

The miscreants have been stepping up their atrocities as the election date is inching closer, he added.
