CBSE results cut a sorry figure as 40% kids of Tripura govt schools fail

Agartala: A decision of the Tripura govt around three years ago to convert 125 existing govt high and higher secondary schools with state-of-the-art facilities under the CBSE without making proper faculties has taken a heavy toll on the school’s students, which triggered serious reactions across the state.The secondary and the higher secondary exam results of the CBSE this year cut a sorry figure for Tripura where more than 40% of students failed both exams.In a decision in October 2021, the Biplab Kumar Deb-led govt suddenly decided to introduce the CBSE pattern of learning initially in 100 schools shifting them from Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) with the existing staff.At least 71 of those converted schools were Bengali medium. As per the decision, the schools have been brought under the ‘Vidyajoyti’ scheme where the primary section has started with English medium, and as the students move up in classes from I to XII, the classes will be gradually converted to English medium.“Then education minister Ratan Lal Nath and education secretary Soumya Gupta had misled the Cabinet, and Bengali medium schools were brought under the CBSE board three years ago without any infrastructure and trained teachers,” said a senior minister of the state govt.Not only Cabinet members but also student bodies, political parties, academicians, and guardians objected to the introduction of the CBSE instruction in English in Bengali medium schools without infrastructure and trained teachers. However, Education department officials said, “The evaluation of answer scripts in both secondary and higher secondary was done by untrained teachers due to the pressure from the CBSE, which impacted the result.”
