Budget for tribal welfare increased by 73%: Jual Oram

Agartala: Union Budget of the third NDA govt has increased the allocation for tribal welfare by 73%, according to Union minister for tribal affairs Jual Oram. He highlighted that around Rs 13,000 crore has been allocated for tribal welfare schemes nationwide.Key allocations include Rs 6,399 crore for the construction of 728 Eklavya Model Residential Schools for tribal students from Class VI to IX. The budget also proposes a “Prime Minister’s package” of five schemes for employment, skill development, and other opportunities for 4.1 crore youth over five years, with a central outlay of Rs 2 lakh crore, Oram said.Under the Uttar Purva Transformative Industrialisation Scheme 2024, Rs 10,037 crore is allocated for the development of industries and employment generation in the northeast and Tripura over the next 10 years. Additionally, 14 projects worth Rs 458 crore have been approved under the Northeast Special Infrastructure Development Scheme.The budget also includes more than Rs 3 lakh crore for schemes benefiting women and girls, and the limit for MUDRA loans under the “Tarun” category will be increased to Rs 20 lakh from the current Rs 10 lakh. The Pradhan Mantri Janjati Unnat Gram Abhiyan Scheme will cover 63,000 villages, focusing on infrastructure development.

Development scheme for 63,000 tribal villages

The government announced the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan scheme to enhance the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities, impacting 63,000 villages and benefiting 50 million tribals. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that the scheme will ensure comprehensive coverage and that funding for the tribal affairs ministry has been increased to Rs 13,000 crore for 2024-25.

Budget 2024 highlights: Three new employment-linked incentive schemes launched with Rs 2 lakh crore allocation

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget, announcing three major employment-linked incentive schemes. Rs 2 lakh crore has been allocated for job creation over five years. Scheme A offers Direct Benefit Transfer, Scheme B provides manufacturing incentives, and Scheme C supports employers. Additionally, a centrally-sponsored scheme will skill 20 lakh youth and upgrade 1,000 ITIs.
