Agartala:
BJP is facing a crisis with internal squabble within the party and between the allies over selection of candidates for elections to the three-tier panchayat in the state.
The infighting within BJP came to the fore on Wednesday when an aggrieved group locked up the Bhabanipur panchayat office, which falls under Dhanpur assembly constituency in Sepahijala district, alleging large-scale corruption and non-payment of remuneration to the local youths employed for maintaining village amenities for the last few months.
The protest intensified as the day progressed disrupting traffic and public life. Though the agitation was called off in the afternoon following the intervention of police, the situation continues to remain tense. Villagers have demanded changing the present set up of three-tier panchayats and bringing fresh faces in the coming elections, reports Biswendu Bhattacharjee.
