Bail for BJP N Tripura chief after ‘beating’ poll officer

Agartala: A local court on Monday granted bail to ruling BJP’s North Tripura district president Kajal Das after police produced him before the magistrate charging him with obstructing govt officers in discharging duties and assaulting them in public places.Das, along with his followers, have been accused of thrashing the presiding officer at booth 22 of Bagbassa assembly segment under Tripura East parliamentary constituency during polling on April 26. Kajal allegedly obstructed the presiding officer when he was distributing tokens to a good number of voters. Das was initially asking the officer not to distribute the tokens to prevent the entry of the voters and allow his people to take over the booth for proxy voting but the latter did not agree.An FIR was lodged against the attackers, including Das, for assaulting a presiding officer. Accordingly, he was arrested and brought to court.
