7% tariff hike to support Tripura power co

Agartala: The Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC) has decided to increase power tariff by 7% on its current rate to support the annual revenue deficit of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).TERC chairman D Radhakrishna on Saturday said the TSECL, in the tariff revision petition in June this year, projected a revenue gap of Rs 1,100.60 crore and proposed to recover the deficit through increasing tariffs, including a gap resulting from truing up and pending regulatory assets.“If the claim of TSECL’s revenue gap is considered that roughly translates the tariff hike of around 150%, we pruned it to Rs 60 crore for which a 7% tariff hike has become inevitable,” Radhakrishna said, reports Biswendu Bhattacharjee.

40,000 industries to protest power tariff hike

Thousands of industrial units in Tamil Nadu will be shut down in protest of high electricity tariffs. The announcement came after the chief minister made changes to the electricity tariff scheme for seasonal industries. While some industries will benefit from the changes, representatives of micro, small, and medium enterprises expressed dissatisfaction. The strike is in response to the tariff hikes and the introduction of peak hour charges, which have negatively impacted industries.

3-fold rise in Uttarakhand forest rest house tariff, safari rates up too

The rates for stay at forest rest houses in Uttarakhand have increased significantly, with prices going up to Rs 2,000 per day from Rs 750 earlier. Day visit charges inside the reserve have also risen sharply for both Indian and foreign visitors. Angling and carrying professional cameras in tiger reserves have also become more expensive. Officials justify the hike, stating that the rates have not been revised for almost 14 years.

Tripura to import 150 MT hilsa from Bdesh in festive season

Tripura fishmongers have received approval to import 150 metric tonnes of hilsa fish ahead of the Sharad festival. The first consignment is expected to arrive on Saturday, with 10 metric tonnes planned to be brought in weekly to meet local demand. Hilsa prices are currently high, but are expected to decrease as fishing for hilsa closes in the coming weeks. Tripura relies heavily on fish from Bangladesh during the monsoon and winter seasons. Formal trade between Tripura and Bangladesh is limited due to restrictions.
