4 Bangla nationals without passports arrested in Tripura
Agartala: Tripura Police arrested four Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly staying without passports in the houses of three Indian citizens in the bordering villages of Amarpur in Tripura’s Gomati district in a late-night operation on Monday. The three Indian hosts have also been arrested, said police.Based on intelligence inputs, a team led by DSP (Crime) Abhimanyu R Prasad raided three residences in Thakcherra of Amarpur and arrested nine Bangladeshi nationals, they added. However, five of them were released later after they produced their passports and valid visas, police said. The house owners have been identified as Sukumar Das (62), a retired Army man, Subir Saha (60), a businessman, and Shankar Chakraborty, a small-time trader. They have been arrested on the charge of sheltering Bangladeshi nationals without informing the administration and booked for criminal conspiracy. The four arrested Bangladeshis have been booked under the Passports Act, said police.According to police, during the raid at Das’s house, police detained Ankhar Miah (29), Kajal Miah (45) and Khalek Miah (50), all natives of Moulavibazar district in Bangladesh. Based on their information, police raided Saha’s house, where they found Bangladeshi nationals who had valid documents. At Chakraborty’s house in the Chandipara locality of Amarpur town, police detained one Mushaid Ali (28), also a resident of Bangladesh’s Moulavibazar district, who had crossed the border without a passport. Probe revealed that all the Bangladeshi nationals are related to each other, but were not linked to the Indian hosts, said the investigating police officer.
