Thirty-seven nomads stopped from entering Tripura village

AGARTALA: Thirty-seven nomads were prevented from entering Putia village in

West Tripura

’s Sonamura by villagers after the

administration

facilitated their return. The administration was forced to take them back.


All of them have now been put up at Kalayanpur H S School in Khowai. The district, disease

officials have been requested to undergo Covid-19 tests. For now, the district administration is providing them with food and soap. “They were kept confined at an isolated place at Totabari in their tent, and the administration has provided food and other amenities, including surveillance, on their health for the last few weeks. Suddenly, three days ago they decided to move back to their village, as local people and police obstructed their movement,” said a senior official of
Khowai district administration.

“We have no problem with them except on some social issues. But now the whole world is facing a crisis because of Covid-19 infection. Everyone knows Bede families never follow hygiene and if they are allowed, the entire village, including their remaining population, might get infected. Ideally, they should stay quarantined at some place for a few weeks,” said Sukumar Das, a resident of Putia.
