2nd border haat in Tripura will open next month

Agartala: Both the Tripura government and Bangladesh have decided to reopen the Tarapur border haat at Kamalasagar in Sepahijala district, which was shut since the Covid-19 pandemic struck. The decision was taken following the successful run of Srinagar border haat in South Tripura along the Indo-Bangladesh boundary.
The border haat management committee of both the countries held a meeting last week and resolved to reopen Tarapur haat from next month. Due to the prolonged closure, the infrastructure of the haat, including electricity and water lines, have suffered damage and need to be repaired and restored soon.
Officials from the two countries jointly visited the haat on June 15. The officials from Bangladesh included Kasba upazila executive officer Mohammad Amimul Ehsan Khan, assistant commissioner (land) Sanjib Sarkar, upazila engineer Md Saiful Islam, while those from Tripura were engineers A Debnath, Sabyasachi Debnath, Arindam Bhattacharya, Manjit Das, Bishalgarh BDO Anurag Sen and BSF Company Commander Surender Singh. The border haat would accommodate 25 registered traders each from nearby villages of India and Bangladesh every Sunday.
