AGARTALA: Tripura Police on Tuesday arrested the driver of a truck transporting a huge consignment of cannabis. The helper fled. Police said a total of 400 kg of cannabis kept in 52 packets, was recovered from the cabin of a lorry registered in Kashmir.
The driver, identified as Manzoor Ahmed Chandni of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir, was arrested.
Shortly after the seizure, another truck registered with
Assam arrived and when the police tried to stop it, the driver fled from the spot leaving the vehicle on the highway on the Tripura-Assam border. During the search, police recovered cannabis in 35 packets. The consignments were bound from Agartala to
Bihar, the police said.
