Agartala: Two persons from UP were sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment in an NDPS case by a special court in Sepahijala district of Tripura on Friday. A penalty of Rs 1 lakh has also been imposed on them.
Acting on a tip off, police had in June last year intercepted a truck coming from UP with animal fodder for the Devipur cattle farm under Madhupur PS of Sepahijala. The truck was carrying about 300 packets containing 47,984 bottles of a banned cough syrup along with 300 bags of animal fodder. The contraband was seized and driver Pintu Shukla, along with his helper, Rajendra Singh, were arrested.
After a year-long hearing, special judge Debasish Kar found both of them guilty of transportation of contraband items and awarded them rigorous imprisonment.
