AGARTALA: Eleven Bangladeshi citizens, among them four minors, were taken into custody by law enforcement in a secluded frontier settlement within Tripura's Dhalai district for crossing the border without proper documentation, according to police reports on Sunday.
The group was attempting to return to their home country of Bangladesh via the Gandacherra sub-division of Dhalai district.
Following a lead, a police unit under the command of Palah Dutta, the officer in charge (OC) of Gandacherra police station, conducted a raid in Machkumir, a border village in Dhalai district, on Saturday. During the operation, they apprehended the 11 Bangladeshi nationals.
"We have registered a case under the Indian Passport Act and an investigation is on", the OC said, adding they had gone to Bengaluru after crossing the border in the Gandacherra area around a month back.
"We have seized train tickets from Sealdah to Ambassa which indicates they were returning from Bengaluru via Kolkata," he said.
