Baichung Bhutia, Footballer, on life in Kuala Lumpur and his marriage plans

After your stint in England, this is your second trip as a player to an international club. Are you enjoying it?

Yes. Playing outside the country is always good.
You get to interact with a lot of players who have had various professional experiences and you can learn from all that. As a player I am glad I came here. But you fell ill in between.

I did but it was nothing major, just a little fever. I’m fine now. What is life like in Kuala Lumpur?

The life of a footballer is the same everywhere. Most of the time I’m practicing or playing matches. But I do chill out as well.

You’ve always said that you used to be quite lonely during your England trip. Are you feeling homesick this time too?

No. It’s fine. In fact, I’ll be back in Kolkata by the first week of October and then come back here again. Since I’m getting a chance to meet my friends in a while, I’m not complaining.

You also had a holiday before you left for this assignment. That was fun. I was in Manipur spending time with my girlfriend Madhuri and her family. Since the two of us live in different cities, and given my schedule we hardly get to meet. This holiday was thus long due. But the day I landed in Kolkata, the same evening I had to take the flight out for this place. That got a little hectic.

So what plans of marriage?

Marriage has been on the cards for quite a while. We are giving serious thought to it now. If things go right, we should be able to finalise things really soon.
