Mrs Iyer dines out at the Taj

in the elitist world of cinema, where style and pedigree matter, konkana sensharma seem to fit the bill perfectly. the daughter of the acclaimed actress and filmmaker aparna sen, konkona plays the games of glamour by her own rules. that is why when she lounges at taj bengal’s chinoiserie in a pair of trousers and a black kurta, her partner for the evening admits
she is the most natural and the best actress in the country.� now meet him....he has won the hearts of teenagers when he stripped to the waist in seascape, and when this advertising man dropped his pants in dev benegal’s english august he became the talk of the town. “english august was screened before jyoti basu and believe me that day i was tensed,� said actor rahul bose who is all set to appear as the mr. opposite mrs. iyer played by konkona sensharma in aparna sen’s forthcoming directorial venture, mr and mrs iyer.
unlike the trained plastic duplicates of bollywood, both the actors seemed to love food and apart from konkona’s biryani and rahul’s dal bhaat, the oriental curries and the jumbo prawns seemed to be the next natural choice.
“i love to eat and i think one should not bother about the weight problem. after all food is life and one’s supposed to enjoy both,� admits rahul who even at times grubs daal bhaat for breakfast. sharing an incident konkona said, “whenever rahul comes to our place, my mom starts the preparation early as we all know that rahul er daal bhaat mane actually ki. and of course this is not leg pulling.�
moving over to the shooting sequences of mr and mrs iyer and complimenting rahul on his work, the talented actress said, “it is great to work with him and i think that he is really good. in fact there is so much to learn from him. of course it is a different thing that we always used to fight and ma had to shout and say, ‘what’s wrong with the leading stars of my film.’ the rest was fun.�
on being born at woodlands in kolkata, rahul bose said, “i was born here but the next stop was mumbai. in fact, i cannot give a permanent address because i love living this life almost off the suitcase.�
with the shooting of mr and mrs iyer almost over, it is time for both the actors to go back. for rahul it is work time as his first directorial film everybody says i am fine is ready for release. and for konkona, the destination is delhi. “i am ready to do hindi films. it is just that the script should be appealing,� she says. and to sign off, here’s a bit of gossip. konkona is seeing somebody.
yes, i am seeing someone and it’s fun,� says the confident starlet who’s all set to become a star, but then, we won’t tell you who it is.
