“I have always wanted to do different roles and this year will see the same.”Your whacky hairdo in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom was discussed by all. And today we see you with a new hairstyle. (with a coy smile) I have been born with curly hair that you saw in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (JBJ) and what you see today is what it looks like after straightening. Over all these years, I have been right, wrong or even silly with my hair.
But I always tell myself 'yeh to mere hai, joh chahta hu kar sakta hu'.
You are also experimenting with your roles...That's what I love to do. JBJ was a comedy whereas Naqab is a thriller, then again Nanhe Jaisalmer is a film where I get to play myself. This will be followed by Ek with Nana Patekar where I will be doing a lot of action after a long time. And if all goes well, Samir Karnik's Roshan may get released by this year end as well. That's a quite a handful... Naqab is with my favourite director duo along with my pal, Akshaye. The director for Nanhe Jaisalmer took some time to convince me to play myself in the film but he finally did it. Ek is a remake of a South film and I think after Bichoo and Soldier (as solo heroes), I have a lot of action sequences. Indian audience indulge in stereotyping their screen heroes... I had to face the same problem when I made a debut with Barsaat. As son of Dharamendra and brother of Sunny, I was tagged as an 'action hero' and the film was more of a CV of sorts for me. But I have always wanted to do different roles and this year will see the same. Low-budget films are 'in' this season... The market is such now that there's tremendous scope to come up with ideas that weren't entertained before. When I started off, everything seemed to be going wrong in the industry and then piracy took over. But, it's not the same now and the audience has started thinking more. And most of these films have an ensemble cast. But as soon as a big star is roped in, things change. After films, who takes up most of your time? My two sons. Life is very competitive these days and I want them to be educated enough to face all odds. If they want to become actors, they are more than welcome to but they should always have something to fall back upon. What about production? We'll be concentrating on production now. We are not businessmen by nature and we tend to get conned easily at times. But, it's all a learning experience and we hope to get working on some real good scripts now. Kolkata is... A city where I've been coming to as a child. In fact, I have always wanted to make it to Darjeeling as well but never managed to. Papa took bhaiyya there as a kid but I missed out on the trip. Papa used to come down here to shoot very often and my trips were mostly from the studios to the guest house and homes of some directors. The city has a new look now and though I don't get to move about very freely now, I think the city is very fascinating. I love Kolkata's new look.
