rashika ranjan shabha. the name rings few bells. though not so familiar because of their aversion to publicity, for those who know, it conjures up visions of classical music and dance concerts. formed in 1946 by a band of dedicated music lovers, this cultural society has been active for over five decades now. this year the 56th annual music conference of the organisation started from january 18 at thyagraja hall.

the inauguration was followed by programmes by v. sivadasan, prasanna sivadasan, v. bhaskar, j. manikandan and b. krishnakumar. on january 19, the auditorium was full to the entire capacity to watch the hyderabad brothers in performance. d. seshachary and d. raghavachary on vocals once again justified the fame of the duo. on january 20, o.s. thyagrajan mesmerised the audience with her vocals. accompanying her was peri sreerama murthy on violin, bhakthavathasalam on mridangam and e.m subramaniam on ghatam. on january 22, it was n. vijay shiva on vocals presenting another wonderful evening of carnatic music. january 23 saw the maximum crowd so far. sudha raghunathan in vocals along with embar kannan in violin and skandasubramanian in mridangam presented the audience an enchanting evening. "january 25 and 26 will see more crowd," said r pattabhiram, secretary of the organisation."on friday, we have s sowmya in vocals and vijayalakshmi on the saturday," he added. so, if you are feeling patriotic and want to trace back our rich cultural root you know where to go.
