Bengaluru: Wipro has appointed
Arundhati Bhattacharya, former chairman of State Bank of India (SBI), as an independent director for five years with effect from January 1, 2019.
"I am confident that her deep repository of knowledge spanning across the financial services sector combined with her understanding of technology and proven expertise in driving operational transformation will immensely benefit Wipro," Wipro chairman Azim Premji said.
Bhattacharya, the first woman chair of India's largest lender, was nearly 40 years at SBI. Last week, she was also inducted in Reliance Industries as an independent director.
Bhattacharya will be the second woman on the 11-member
Wipro board
. The other is Ireena Vittal.
