CHENNAI: Recently introduced

Jawa motorcycles

are attracting some interest from women bikers in India, according to

Classic Legends

(the company that owns the

Jawa

brand) CEO Ashish Joshi.

"Although women customers comprise about 3% of our bookings, we have received very good response from this segment. We consider women bikers to be as much part of our motorcycle eco system as men bikers," he said.

Apart from its cult status, the specs of the motorcycles have also contributed to its popularity among women. "The seat height is very comfortable for women," said Joshi. "Also the machine handles like a champ even though it is around 300 cc. It is designed to be an easy handler."

Colour options is another reason why women are preferring Jawa. "We have a colour called Halley's Teal and we have seen the maximum number of women buyers gravitating towards it," said Joshi.

Launched last year, Jawa bikes are pre-sold out until October-November. The first deliveries will happen in March. The company is very well funded, he said. "We have PE funding and Mahindra is an investor. Classic Legends is not looking at any other investor. The investors have a plan and are investing according to that," added Joshi.
