Despite transport relaxations, coronavirus fear casts shadow on inter-state movement of goods, fruits, vegetables

CHENNAI: M Nallusamy, a farmer in Tamil Nadu's Dindigul district, used to send semi-ripe papayas from his farm to Kochi and then to the Middle East. Before the Covid lockdown, it was fetching him Rs 23 per kg and the farm was getting ready for a bumper crop with almost 50 tonnes to be plucked over the next few weeks. But due to transport restrictions, including agricultural produce, into Kerala and Mysuru, Karnataka, there are hardly any traders to buy it.
