A perfect startup founder is one who is hungry and a fighter, says Shark Tank India judge Amit Jain. In this week's episode of TOI Business Bytes, Amit Jain the co-founder and CEO of CarDekho talks about the success mantras for startups and what he looks for in pitches.
"I don't evaluate pitches as best or worst. These are entrepreneurs with ideas. The ideas can have a large market or a small market. Each one is passionate about their ideas. There's structure to us evaluating ideas," Amit Jain says.
So, what are the top 3 checkboxes a pitch should tick to get money? "You look at the founder first, you know, and the value system of the founder. You see, is he hungry? Is he hardworking? Integrity? Fighter or not? You try to check that," Amit Jain explains.
Talking about CarDekho, Amit Jain says the buying cycle of people is shortening. He also sees a shift towards electric vehicles, especially in the bike space.
And, when does he see the EV age coming to India? "I think it will be evolving. Depending on how the infrastructure or the material is available. Lithium is a precious material that is not available fast. Mines are opening up in the next 1-1.5 years. We've also found reserves in J&K recently. So as the availability of raw materials for batteries become more abundant, the price will also come down and the penetration will be higher," he tells TOI.
Watch this TOI Business Bytes video to know what an entrepreneur should keep in mind when pitching an idea to Amit Jain and his views on the evolving startup ecosystem in India.
