Two-wheeler sales vroom past 2-crore mark in 2025

NEW DELHI: Two-wheeler sales in India crossed the two crore mark in 2025, rising about 5% from around 1.9 crore units in 2024, even as volumes remained below the record peak of 2.1 crore units sold in 2018, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam).

Exports rose 24.2% in 2025 to a record 49.4 lakh units, supported by recovery in Africa, steady demand from South Asia, and an industry-wide recovery in motorcycle demand.

Hero MotoCorp remained the largest two-wheeler seller in India, with sales rising 2% to 57.5 lakh units in 2025. The sharpest growth came from TVS Motor Company, where sales jumped 15.7% to 39.8 lakh units in 2025 (see graphic).

According to Siam, while demand improved across urban and rural markets, growth was led mainly by cities, reflected in faster expansion in scooters compared with motorcycles. The sales of 2-wheelers were aided by GST 2.0, income tax relief, and repo rate cuts during the year, which improved affordability and lifted household spending. A strong festive season added momentum to sales, especially in urban markets.

“Looking ahead, the industry expects the positive momentum to continue well into 2026, supported by stable macro-economic conditions, improving affordability, and continued policy support. The industry will also continue to monitor geopolitical developments to ensure resilience in the supply chain and export volumes,” said Siam president Shailesh Chandra.
