Torrent steps up to meet daily oxygen needs of 10,000 patients
NEW DELHI: Ahmedabad-based pharma-to-energy major Torrent Group has taken several steps to augment production and supply of medical oxygen to cumulatively meet the daily requirement of about 10,000 patients, the company said on Wednesday.
"We have taken multiple initiatives, balancing the need for immediate relief and building long-term sustainable infrastructure at government hospitals.
The initiatives will help ease the current situation and also support the government's efforts to be prepared for any future healthcare crisis. Torrent stands committed to doing all it can during this time of national crisis," the statement quoted chairman Samir Mehta as saying.
The initiatives include setting up 50 medical oxygen production plants, which will use the pressure swing adsorption technology, to 50 different government hospitals in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.
These plants are under construction and will progressively start getting commissioned from the second half of May 2021.
The group has deployed two cryogenic tankers of 18 tonnes each for transportation of liquid medical oxygen and also donated 1,000 oxygen cylinders.
It has provided 200 oxygen concentrators and set up an oxygen generation plant with a bottling facility at Ahmedabad, which is providing free oxygen to the nearby areas.
