cost in 2020-21? According to Economic Survey 2020-21, the prices of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis saw a rise between June and November 2020, in both urban and rural areas, before witnessing a sharp fall in December.

During June-December, the most

expensive

place for a vegetarian

thali

in urban areas was Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It offered a thali for Rs 40. On the other hand, Madhya Pradesh was the cheapest (Rs 24). In terms of non-vegetarian thali, Mizoram was the most expensive (Rs 52.4), while one could have it in Haryana for only Rs 28.

Andaman & Nicobar Islands was the most expensive place for a vegetarian thali in rural areas too. A vegetarian thali was priced at Rs 38.7 there. It was cheapest in Uttar Pradesh (Rs 23.1). For a non-vegetarian thali, the most expensive place was Arunachal Pradesh (Rs 48.5), while Chandigarh was the cheapest (Rs 29.9).

Thalinomics or the economics of a plate of food in India was first introduced in the Economic Survey for 2019-20.
